A 70s Californian ranch hideaway
in Byron’s hinterland

book here

Tucked away in the rolling hills of Byron Bay’s hinterland, Sun Ranch is a design-led boutique hotel set across 55 acres of regenerated farmland. Inspired by the free-spirited Californian ranches of the 1970s and the laid-back rhythm of Australian country life, it was created as a place where good design, genuine hospitality and unforgettable experiences come together.

More than somewhere to stay, Sun Ranch is a place to slow down. Days begin with fresh coffee and birdsong, afternoons are spent by the mineral pool, on horseback or around the fire, and evenings unfold over long dinners, good music and cocktails at the Cowboy Bar. Whether you’re here for a weekend escape, a wedding, a celebration or simply a chance to disconnect, the pace is yours to set.

Every corner of the Ranch has been thoughtfully curated, from vintage furnishings sourced around the world to locally crafted ceramics, regenerated landscapes and spaces designed for gathering. But what defines Sun Ranch isn’t the architecture or the interiors—it’s the feeling of being here. A place where strangers become friends, conversations last a little longer, and the best memories are made without ever needing to leave the property.

Sustainability has been considered from the very beginning of Sun Ranch. From off-grid accommodation and solar power to rainwater harvesting and land regeneration, every decision has been made with longevity in mind.

Our six barns operate off-grid using solar battery systems, while the Rambler Long House is supported by a hybrid solar array and Tesla battery. Across the property, over 350,000 litres of harvested rainwater, together with individual rainwater systems servicing each barn, help reduce our reliance on natural resources.

Beyond the buildings, our commitment extends to the land itself. Through our regeneration program we’ve planted more than 10,000 native trees and continue to support local conservation initiatives, helping restore habitat for native wildlife while creating a landscape that will thrive for generations to come. We also prioritise local producers and makers, celebrating the region through the food, wine and products our guests experience during their stay.
